Up for your consideration is a post reservation circa 1890-1920 Plains Indian Beaded and Quilled Cantinite Pipe. This Pipe shows great age and appears to have been smoked often given the amount of staining especially to the wood at the opposite end. This also exhibits correct wear for the age with scattered dings and scrapes consistent with being used often as these pipes were an important part of life for the Native culture. The Cantinite stone pipe exhibits a fantastic deep blood red color only obtained with age and smoking. Flattened Quills hold the red dyed horsehair and leather throng to the pipe with the Quills themselves showing great darkened patina. Has a hand sewn Red Silk Ribbon and leather ties decorating the fabric and beaded coated hand carved wooden stem. The last picture shows the hand sewn holes in the silk where the thread used to be. I’m assuming this was a repurposed piece of a dress or hair ribbon tie. Overall this is an excellent example of an authentic post reservation plains Indian pipe that almost assuredly saw use on a still untamed frontier.
