Here's an item that you very seldom will find being sold by itself. This is a rare Type 1 "exposed base" magazine for the earliest Colt 1911 military pistols. These magazines were issued from the very beginning until about serial number 4500. Their construction is unique and they are easily identified. Unlike all later magazines, the body or tube of the magazine does not come down and cover the edges of the magazine base and the sides of the base are "exposed", hence the nickname. This appears to be a Type 1 "C" magazine, with the 2-tone finish and the unfinished cyanide hardened upper portion extending to below the mag catch slot. This magazine is completely original, not refinished or modified in any way.
The magazine is free of dents and the feed lips are free of cracks.
Overall, this a very good example of a really hard to find 1911 magazine. If you own an early 1911 without this correct magazine, then you probably already know how often they turn up loose. An expensive magazine to be sure, but when do you think you'll find another?
