This is an authentic American Plains Indian 3 color beaded sheath on Indian tanned rough out hide, circa 1880’s. Note that the knife is a much earlier date, and is hot stamped G crown R, Joseph Rodgers & Sons, Cutlers to His Majesty, and the famous Rodgers Hallmark. 10 1/4” overall with a triangular shaped 5 3/8” blade. Weight is 4.4 ounces. This mark is pre-1830 when the King of England was King George IV.
The age of this knife, i.e., pre-1830, suggests this knife was used for decades and decades, and handed down for generations. The knife sheath is 7 ½” long x 3” and made with a rough out hide outer shell with a leather liner and hand stitched together with sinew.
Overall, in fine, untouched, as found condition decades ago, and this knife has been with this sheath for many decades.
