Here's a very nice pre-64 Winchester Model 70 Featherweight rifle. Chambered for the desirable .243 Winchester cartridge, it wears the light contour 22" barrel. The front sight is a hooded bead on serrated ramp and the rear sight is the original folding Lyman 16A. To save weight, it features an alloy trigger guard, floorplate, and buttplate. This rifle is in excellent overall condition. The original blue finish rates 98%+ with just a small amount of thinning to the hollow bolt handle knob and a couple of very minor handling marks. There is absolutely no rust or any pitting. The checkered walnut stock is also in excellent condition, free of cracks or chips and showing only a few handling marks. The wood has never been sanded, refinished, or glass bedded and the original varnish rates 97-98%.
Even the buttplate retains nearly all of its original finish. The bolt is properly serial numbered and matching to the receiver. The mechanics are in perfect working order and the bore is like new. The serial number places this rifle in early 1959 production. The .243 Featherweight was introduced in 1955 but only about 18% of the Model 70 Featherweights were chambered for this excellent cartridge. A very clean and collectible example!
