Here's an uncommon variation of the WWII 1911A1. This is an early Remington Rand 1911A1 that has the "Type 1" slide address with "NEW YORK" spelled out rather than abbreviated. This style marking appears on only about 15,000 of the earliest pistols. There are other early features as well including the checkered "stub" hammer, mainspring housing, and trigger. The finely checkered 41-row mainspring housing was manufactured on machinery transferred to Remington Rand from Singer Mfg. Co. when Singer's educational order of 500 pistols was completed. The trigger is the early milled variety (rather than stamped). During early production barrels were also supplied to Remington Rand by Colt and Springfield Armory. While High Standard barrels dominated by the time this pistol was produced, it is fitted with a Colt barrel with small capital "G" forward of the lugs.
Overall condition is very good and this pistol retains its factory original "Dulite" blue finish.
The pistol is in good working order and everything functions properly. The bore rates near excellent with only a trace of frost in mostly bright rifling. The pistol comes with an excellent condition WWII pinned base contract magazine that is stamped "S" for Scoville Mfg. Co..
