Here's a very nicely restored antique Colt Model 1873 U.S. Single Action Army revolver. This revolver was manufactured for the U.S. Government back in 1880 and carries the "D.F.C." inspectors initials of David F. Clark, the United State government’s principal sub-inspector between 1880 and 1887. The frame on this gun is the early “black powder” style with the cylinder base pin retained by a screw entering from the front of the frame. The full matching serial number (60610) is marked on the frame, trigger guard and backstrap. The last four digits of the serial number are properly marked on the cylinder and barrel (beneath the ejector rod housing). The 7-1/2" barrel is stamped with the period correct Colt address. The left side of the frame has the correct three line/three date patent marking followed the the "U.S." property marking. The frame, hammer and loading gate are properly case colored while the barrel, cylinder, ejector rod housing, trigger guard and backstrap are nicely blued. The trigger, cylinder base pin, and various screws have the correct bright fire blue finish. The one-piece walnut grips are dated 1880 and have the "DFC" cartouche on the right and the "CCM" final acceptance cartouche of U.S. Ordnance Department receiving officer Lt. Charles M. Morrison, who inspected Colt revolvers with Clark from 1880-1882.
Overall condition is quite nice and this revolver retains about 97-98% of its new finish. There are a few minor handling marks but no significant pitting on the exterior of the revolver.
The walnut grip is in very good condition with minor wear but no cracks or chips. This handsome old Colt functions perfectly and exhibits proper timing and solid lock-up. The bore is also excellent with bright, sharp rifling.
