About 125 years ago this pistol was regarded as an everyday accompaniment and versatile tool throughout western America; consequently many exhibit years of exposure to weather and the rigors of riding trails and rounding up if not rustling herds.
This example has an even patina with traces of the original blue on the trigger guard, hammer, ejector housing and barrel. The screw heads are sharp and the action is very tight with four crisp clicks as the hammer is drawn. The bore looks shootable to me but shows decades of use with corrosive ammunition mostly addressed with prompt cleaning. Overall, this gun is so well preserved that restoration or repair seems likely but nothing obvious suggests 'enhancement' rather than being exceptionally well cared for.
Someone will be very happy to add this pistol to their collection.
