Here's a very nice example of a Marlin Model 27 "pump" or "slide action" rifle. This is the early Model 27 (not the much more common 27-S) with the desirable high polish blue finish on the receiver. This early version of the Model 27 was only manufactured between 1909-1912 (the 27S continued the line until about 1932). This is a takedown rifle that has a disassembly knob on the left rear of the receiver and a thumb screw on the right front. This rifle is chambered for the .25-20 Winchester cartridge although the barrel is marked ".25-20 M".
The octagon barrel measures 24" in length. These rifles were popular with their owners, fairly priced, and usually saw much use. Finding an early example in high condition is quite challenging. This is a nice one. All serial numbered parts are matching. The rifle serial number, 1701.
he stocks are in very good shape also and retain almost all of their original varnish.
The stocks have not been sanded or refinished. This rifle appears to function perfectly and even has an excellent, bright/sharp bore! Judging from the early serial number, I would estimate production in about 1910. A very nice, early example!
