Extremely rare and very collectable Spanish American War 1st California Volunteer Infantry Drum Major's Baton (Mace). Original piece, presented to First Sergeant JOHN VON STADEN by Officers First Cal. U.S.V. in Manilla on March of 1899! Baton measures 43" in overall length with a 4" diameter silver weigted sphere top and silver bottom piece (assuming silver plated).
Shaft is solid wood and accented with a braided sash. The sphere is inscribed "Presented to Sergt. John Von Staden By Officers First Cal. U.S.V. Manilla March 1899". Included with the baton is a large binder of associated literature and lineage from the Sergeant and his Baton.
Lots of history in this lot! Baton is in good solid condition.
