This is a fresh out of the basement Winchester M1876 Lever Action Rifle. Made in 1883 it takes the larger/faster 40-60 rifle cartridge intended for heavier game. Octagon barrel is 28 inches long and has the WINCHESTER ARMS NEW HAVEN CT. KINGS-IMPROVED PATENTED MARCH 29, 1866. OCTOBER 16, 1860 rolled stamp in the top of the barrel in front of the rear sight notch and the .40-60 stamp on the left. All steel frame with brass lifter which is also marked 40-60 on the bottom. The moon buttplate has the trap door for the cleaning tools (empty) and works fine. Walnut stock in solid condition without any cracks. The tang in stamped MODEL 1876. This is the third and last model with about only 64,000 produced.
