This is a very fine condition Civil War-era Smith & Wesson No. 2 Army Revolver in .32 Rimfire caliber with a 6-inch octagonal barrel.

This particular Model Number 2 Revolver is in antique very fine condition. The Side Plate still sits flat in the frame and has never been molested. The frame retains 95% plus of the original blue finish. The pivot screw has a slightly marred slot. The vast majority of the original blued finish remains on the interior portions of the grip. Both the front and rear grip straps retain 95% plus of the original blued finish. The lower left portion of the grip frame has the matching “76” assembly number. The Mainspring is in mint condition, remaining in the white. The mainspring screw has an unmarred slot. The bottom of the butt has the crisp serial number “28402” stamp, and the butt retains 98% plus of the original blued finish.

The original six-inch barrel retains 90% plus of its original blued finish with wear noted on the sharp edges and at the muzzle. The original front sight blade is present. The top of the barrel has the crisp and original roll stamp “SMITH.& WESSON. SPRINGFIELD, MASS.” The original Rammer Pin is present, and it remains in the white and is very clean. The Rammer Pin Screw is only slightly marred. The release lever retains considerable original blued finish, and the spring remains strong. The bore retains strong rifling with a bright finish and only moderate frosting in the lands and grooves. The rear of the breech face of the barrel has the matching “76” assembly number.

The original Cylinder 95% plus of its original blued finish throughout. The front face of the cylinder has the matching assembly number “76.” The rear face of the cylinder is in mint condition, retaining all of its original blued finish. The cog remains in the white and is also in mint condition. The cylinder has the correct roll stamp patent dates “APRIL 3. 1855.,” “JULY 5. 1855,” and “DEC. 18. 1860.” All five cylinders remain in mint condition, retaining virtually all of their original blued finish with almost no wear noted.

Both original rosewood grip panels are present, and both are in fine condition. Both original nickel-plated brass bosses are present. The grip panels retain their original finish and there are only a few very small dings with no cracks or chips noted. The inside of the right panel correctly has the matching serial number stamp “28403,” and an old ink marking of a previous owner. The Grip Panel Screw retains all of its original nickel-plated finish and has an unmarred slot. Both grip panels secure tightly to the frame.

This is a very fine and 100% original condition Smith & Wesson Number 2 Army Revolver that was manufactured at the height of the Civil War, and which undoubtedly saw military service. This revolver still functions perfectly.
