Antique- US Springfield, Model 1870 Trapdoor Rifle, Single Shot Rifle in .50 Caliber Centerfire! (.50-70 Cal.) SERIAL NUMBER is: 39096 This rifle features a 32.5” inch barrel, with front and rear sights. The bore is in good condition, with crisp rifle and minor pitting. Nothing major, overall good shape The firearm is still together well, and is not sloppy or loose. Unsure if it is glued/repaired, it is hard to tell, as it’s not a fresh crack, the wood is aged nicely. There is a chip in the toe of the stock as well. Other than those two items, this firearm is in very good condition. It has good era/period use marks that have aged well with the wood. The finish is bright and has a nice patina finish, and is nice with no rust anywhere! Butt plate stamped US, front barrel band marked U, and comes with the ramrod. The lock plate is dated 1863. The Trapdoor is marked Model 1870 with the eagle over/crossed lances, over US. Cartouche is not visible. This firearm is very neat, even with the crack in the stock! This firearm would be a nice addition to any level of collector! It is estimated that only 11,500 of the 1870 model was manufactured!
