US Model 1836 Percussion Conversion Pistol by Robert Johnson dated 1840 in Middletown, Connecticut. This .54 caliber, smoothbore pistol was originally a flintlock pistol and was later converted to percussion using a small bolster and a commercial type hammer with light engraving. The lock is marked "US / R. JOHNSON / MIDDN CONN. / 1840" and inspection and proof marks “US / NWP / P” are visible on the barrel. The left stock flat is marked with two cartouches. There is a small chip on the cup of the hammer.
