This is a really neat gun. Sidelocks retain 95% original case colors. The engraving is sharp throughout. Receiver retains 35% case colors, having silvered in areas. Trigger guard has 60% original blue. The barrels retain 70% thinning blue overall. Excellent bores are bright and shiny. All markings are clear. Well marked down the rib of the barrels: J. PURDEY & SONS. AUDLEY HOUSE, SOUTH AUDLEY STREET, LONDON. MADE OF SIR JOSEPH WHITWORTH'S FLUID-PRESSED STEEL. Gun locks up nice and tight. The barrels have the "church bell" ring to them. Wood stocks are fine with some very minor handling marks, there is a very minor crack in the right side right behind the lock (pictured). Checkering has some wear but is still good. Made without a buttplate, the factory checkering on the butt has some wear. The barrels are 26 inches long, precisely. 2 3/4 inch chambers. According to the Purdey factory build sheet, it was completed on 6th November 1886. Listed as a 12 .bore (2 3/4 in. Case). Hammerless non-ejector Pigeon gun. It originally weighed 7lb. 6 1/2 oz.
