Very good condition antique US Model 1884 Trapdoor Springfield Cadet Rifle in .45-70 caliber. Mechanically functions fine and tight. Has the first type two-piece triggerguard but the second type sling and stacking swivels. Lock is marked “U.S./SPRINGFIELD” with the American eagle. Breech block is marked “MODEL 1884”. Barrel has “VP” and eagle head proofs. Metal finish is original blue showing some wear to brown patina. 29 ½” barrel has a very good bright bore with strong rifling and a little light pitting.
Left side of wrist has an “SWP” inspector cartouche with a partially visible “189?” date. Underside of wrist has a “script P in circle” cartouche.
