Antique Peabody Breechloading Carbine, by Providence (RI) Tool Co., NVSN, .50 RF cal., 20" round barrel, block-blade front and single-leaf rear sights; 4" receiver marked only "E" at top has serpentine trigger guard/operating lever, 5.25" back-action lockplate with military hammer, left-side sling ring/mount. Oil-finished forend has a single spring-retained band (marked "N"), matching buttstock with carbine buttplate. Mfg'd ca. 1866-71. Condition is good retaining no original finishes, being bright metal lacking all markings due to polishing.
