This is a very rare, original, antique fine condition, and early Springfield Armory Model 1842 Musket that was manufactured in 1844, along with an original Model 1855 triangular socket bayonet and original scabbard , which was used during the Civil War. This musket was made during the first year of production of the Model 1842 when only 2,956 were produced. This musket comes with its original Civil War accoutrements, including a percussion cap pouch, remnants of the original belt and “US” belt buckle, and original cartridge pouch.
This Model 1842 Musket also comes with an original and very good Model 1855 Triangular Blade Socket Bayonet and Scabbard. The locking mechanism still works perfectly.. The blade is in good condition, exhibiting an even plum patina with areas of the original armory bright finish showing through. The original Civil War-era Scabbard is in very good condition. The original brass finial tip is present. The riveted belt loop is present. The leather is crazed, but it retains considerable original black finish, and the stitching remains tight. The belt loop has the original maker’s mark stamp. This size bayonet was designed for the new .58 caliber Model 1855 Rifle Musket, so it does not fit the larger .69 caliber barrel of the included Model 1842 Musket, but all of these items have been together for a long time, so they are all included together.

Also included are the remnants of the original Civil War belt. The leather is largely brown with almost none of the original black smooth surface left. The belt is broken with the buckle portion separated. The original maker’s stamp is present, however, although it is somewhat hard to read. The original brass end clip is present. The original oval “US” belt buckle is also present.

Finally, this musket includes an original Civil War Cartridge Box in fair condition. The original “US” oval is missing from the outer cover. The leather exhibits significant crazing, but considerable original black finish is present. Both original bottom cross belt buckles are present. The outer flap closure tab and brass stud are present. Both original paper cartridge tins are present in the box. There are four original lead balls in the loose bullet pouch.

This is a very rare and very good condition Springfield Armory Model 1842 Musket that was manufactured during the first year of production in 1844, along with original Civil War era accoutrements. This musket functions perfectly and is still in firing condition. This is a little time capsule.

This Musket is an antique so it can be shipped to anyone age 21 and above.
