Here we have what to the untrained eye may seen to be another 1858, but it is more special than that. This is an 1861 Navy chamber in .36 Caliber. It is similar to the legendary 1858 but upon further inspection there are differences (aside from the caliber) that set it apart. It has a cut on the loading lever for use with the cylinder arbor, a shorter barrel, early examples do not any safety notches on the cylinder (this one does not have safety notches). The revolvers were not well received and discontinued shortly after their introduction. This is a really cool revolver that will make a great addition to an American revolver, antique, or Remington collection, and with only 5,000 made is not something that comes up often.
The action functions correctly. The cylinder lockup has some side-to-side movement.
