Lebel Rifle 1886/93 8x50mmR in original French military configuration, as used in WWI & WWII. This example was manufactured in 1892 and is a non-licence antique.
This rifle has been detail stripped, cleaned, and rebuilt. All metal surfaces restored to have original finish (not reblued). All active rust was removed in the restoration process. The external metal surfaces of the barrel and receiver has an even covering of shallow pits (for reference on the severity refer to pictures, note the very legible markings). The bore was thoroughly cleaned and happily remains in good condition.
Lands and grooves of the rifling are well defined, with mild molting of the grooves. We can thank probably several French soldiers whose hands this rifle passed through for their care in properly cleaning the barrel after shooting the exclusively corrosive 8x50mm Lebel ammuition available at the time.
