Here is one of only a couple known 1853 Enfield muskets that bear no markings other than a couple of French and Belgian export markings. This example was manufactured on contract likely to the Confederate Army when the British makers were overwhelmed with previous contracts. The condition of this musket is quite good - much better than the other few I have seen. It is likely that the Union blockade prevented the Confederacy from taking possession, but that is just speculation. This specimen has a 39" barrel with a good to very good bore - bright as well as shiny.
The lock works well with half and full cock. The bands bear the same serial number as does the inside of the lock making this an all-matching example. Overall, this is a fantastic find for the serious Civil War collector and another one may never show up so don't miss out.
