Fine Civil War New Jersey Contract Model 1863 Remington New Model Army Percussion Military Revolver, .44 Cal, mfg. May 1864.
The barrel, cylinder, and loading lever retain approximately 70% bright original bluing with the frame mostly thinned to dark gray/brown. Sharp edges and smooth surfaces throughout. Noticeable traces of case color still remain on the hammer. Original wood grips fit perfect and show light/moderate wear with an unmolested appearance and much factory varnish present.
Original hammer, trigger, cylinder pin, screws, and round blade front sight. Action cocks, indexes, locks up, and fires crisp and on time yet only has two clicks. It would appear the very first click which allows the cylinder to free spin for loading is absent. Otherwise it functions very nicely. Nipples are all clean originals. Outstanding bore with flawless mirror bright rifling front to back. The grooves still have factory milling marks with full bluing in all of the cylinder chambers!
Absolutely incredible. A fantastic example of a very rare Civil War state contract Remington New Model Army.
