Presented is a fine plus example of a .45 caliber single shot percussion pistol made in London by R. Fenton (1780-1840) in the late 1830s. These were commonly seen in the 19th century, carried by almost everyone due to their small size and significant stopping power. Most seen today have been heavily used, abused and put away wet. Not this one; it’s one of the finest I’ve handled and I’d wager wasn’t ever carried or fired.
The barrel retains significant original bluing and the frame, hammer and trigger in original bright finish with razor sharp, never cleaned engraving. The nipple is likewise pristine. Original wood grip shows virtually no handling marks and has great color. This particular gun was made by Fenton of London as engraved on the frame and has Birmingham proofs on barrel and frame. Also included as I acquired it is a perfectly fitting combo tool consisting of a barrel key and nipple wrench, these alone are hard to come by and were all hand made.
Action is strong and crisp, it feels as if brand new..
Antique, no licence required.
