This ad for a used lever-action Marlin Model 1888 rifle with a 24” octagonal barrel. The model 1888 was smaller and lighter than other lever rifles at the time and featured a locking lug to secure the breech. Production of the Model 1888 was limited and only lasted one year from August of 1888 to October of 1889.
Marlin shipped a total of 4,803 rifles based on the old factory records and only 1,298 chambered in 32-W (.32-20 caliber).
This rifle was shipped in early 1889 based on the serial number. It is very rare and in very good condition considering its age.
