Interesting US Model 1888 Springfield Trapdoor Rifle 45-70

Here is a very nice looking 1888 Trapdoor rifle with a ramrod bayonet. This rifle looks to be in overall very good condition, the barrel measures about 32 ½" with a nice bore - bright and shiny with strong rifling. The lock works well with the proper 3 clicks and the breech block locks up tight. What is interesting about this example is it looks like it was built using some earlier parts (i.e. 1873 breech block and receiver that dates around 1879). The consignee believes that this was what he called an out of step production that was manufactured utilizing clean up parts at the factory but I also know that this is characteristic of the Bannerman's rifles (those seem to recycle parts from the Springfield musket as well). Whatever the story is (I am not sure) this looks like an overall nice example at a reasonable price that should make a good shooter as well as collectible so don't miss out.
