Incredibly Long Ottoman Empire Barbary Pirate Flintlock Pistol, .62 cal smoothbore, mfg. circa early/mid 18th century. This is an impressive original example of the style pistols carried by the infamous Barbary pirates and Corsairs throughout the 1700's. It measures 22 ¼" long overall with a 15 ¼" barrel. The lock is very fine quality and is engraved with crescent moon and star motifs typically associated with the Ottoman Empire and/or Turkey. It remains in it's original unaltered form with all original components. Small chip on the edge of the pan and damage to the surface of the frizzen. Original touch hole. Barrel is engraved over the breech with a sighting rib running most of it's length and sits loose in the stock only secured by the barrel tang screw. Overall the metal has an untouched dark chocolate/brown patina with some very fine surface oxidation forming. The stock features raised carving around the barrel tang, entry pipe, and along the ramrod channel.
