Here is a good example of a well used historic Plains rifle used about the 1840's to 1850's (during the Westward Expansion of our Great Country as well as early buffalo hunts). This example has a barrel that measures about 33 1/2" long and a bore diameter of about .465"-.475". The bore appears to be in relatively good shape for its age with lots of shine, very strong rifling with some scattered light to moderate pitting (but nothing serious). The nipple has been replaced (this could be a good candidate to shoot). It has the name of JF Redwine on the top of the barrel who may have been the gunsmith who built this gun or was the owner. This example shows quite a lot of use as one would expect from a frontier rifle and it is completely authentic.
