FINE 1898 DATED CARVED WOOD BOWIE STYLE WHIMSEY

This is an Antique finely detailed hand carved wooden Folk Art wooden whimsey in the figural shape of a large Hunting / Bowie knife from a single piece of light weight wood, with a beautiful tan coloration overall. The piece is 15" long overall with a 7 3/4" blade that flares from 1 1/4" at the ricasso to 1 11/6" wide near the tip.
This piece is intricately relief carved with recessed panels on both sides of the blade, with diamond pattern borders.
Overall in fine condition with no damage, repairs or alterations, with a beautiful tan coloration and naturally aged patina. Although the oversize flaring blade would be awkward to use today as a letter opener, this is best suited as fancy antique hand carved whimsy, folk art, object d' art, presentation, commemorative, memento, keepsake, desk accessory or interesting conversation piece.
