Exceptional U.S. contract Model 1836 flintlock pistol manufactured by Robert Johnson of Middletown, Connecticut. Appears to have seen little, if any, use. Many of these were converted to percussion, so original examples like this are particularly desirable, especially in this condition. The barrel is stamaped "US./NWP/P" and the lock is stamped "US./R.JOHNSON/MIDDn CONN/1841". There are two oval script inspection cartouches, "JH" and "W.A.T" stamped on the left flat of the stock. The number "13", a mating mark, is stamped on one of the screws on the outside of the lock, the hammer, and the flash pan.
