English Mortimer 12G SxS black powder shotgun made 1855-1887

This is an antique English Mortimer 12-gauge side-by-side shotgun. This black powder shotgun is marked “S. Mortimer” on the side plates and “Laminated Steel” on the rib between the barrels. The Birmingham proof mark types on the barrel indicate it was made between 1855-1887 in either Birmingham or Scotland. It features 30-inch barrels with Modified & Improved chokes, a one-piece extractor, a case-hardened action with exposed hammers, and a 14” LOP to the front trigger. It is in exceptional condition for a shotgun of this vintage with good casehardening and stock, showing no damage and very little wear. The bores are smooth with just the beginnings of a few matte patches in them. A great example of an antique classic English double!
