This Durs Egg percussion belt pistol features: (1) Damascus steel 5-3/4” octagon .58 caliber smooth bore barrel. (2) The barrel has a captive ramrod. (3) The barrel is numbered “FWJ 62” on the bottom. The barrel is proofed “Crown crossed swords V” The first Viewing proof. There is also a Crown crossed swords BPC” Birmingham proof adopted 1813. (4) The lock, hammer, trigger guard, breech tang, and ramrod entry pipe are engraved with “foliate” engraving. (5) Small “V” notch rear sight with bead front sight. (6) The lock is engraved “D.Egg” and has sliding safety. (7) The top barrel is engraved is script “D Egg Pall Mall London”. (8) Back of breech has German silver inlay. (9) The stock is black walnut with checkered grips and rounded butt. (10) Left side of stock has the belt hook hardware. (11) There is a German silver escutcheon square shaped on the back of the grip near the top tang.
The condition is Very good: (1) Metal parts are original finish and still retaining plenty of bluing. (2) Barrel Damascus steel has nice coloring on the un-exposed area. The exposed area still retains color and has some light frosting. (3) Bore is very well kept, smooth insides with no pitting of frosting (4) Stock has layer of finish added over it with handling marks under the finish. There are no significant gouges. There is one tight stress crack from the left side push pin to the front metal.
(5) The checkering is original and excellent. (6) The lock and hammer have strong engagement. (7) Sliding safety on lock is frozen.
