This is an Antique Ohio Double rifle (Two barrel rifle) made by Edward Andrews of Ohio Circa 1850-62. This is a percussion ignition muzzle loading black powder double rifle in .36 caliber.
This is a very well made American early percussion specialty rifle. Our best guess is this was made from 1840-1860 when Edward was in his prime. This rifle has two “SIX GROOVE” bores.
This Edward W. Andrews two barrel frontier rifle features: (1) Double set trigger, the rear trigger is the set trigger. There is an adjustment screw between the triggers. You can cock the hammers one at a time and the front trigger will not work until the set trigger is drawn. If you were to cock both hammers it is the same except both hammers would fall together “OUCH”. (2) Well constructed hammers with etching and knurled fronts. (3) A real unique rear sight with elevation ramp. Front sight is fixed sturdy pin. (4) Barrels are straight with a ½” concave rib down all 33” in length. (5) There is a gold inlaid band at the back of the barrels and at the back of the rib. (6) There is a ½” gold line following the rib that is submersed and has the name “EWANDREWS” inscribed. (7) The action side plate has 4 pins. (8) There are long tangs on top & bottom. (9) The trigger guard is wide bottomed coming to a narrow flared center finger trigger guard. (10) The top tang has a unique folding peep sight with a windage adjustment bar inlet. (11) One piece walnut stock with one push pin. (11) Nicely designed steel patch box that has two additional nipples and some very old patches inside. (12) Curved butt with sturdy point on top. (13) There is a Steel forearm cap. (14) The ramrod looks to be correct and aged to the gun. The inside has a brass flat tipped push end that is threaded over a pointed ball puller. (15) There are two silver support plates under the barrels that are inlet and screwed to the stock.

The condition of this double barreled frontier rifle is “VERY GOOD”. The metal finish is all original and has an even aged patina & color. The stock is intact and solid. The stock has had the finish stripped a long time ago and has had some over finish added.

This is a fine example of mid nineteenth century American gun making.
