This is a Colt Colt New Line 7 shot .22 rim fire metallic cartridge Pocket Revolver Second Model made in the last year of production in 1877.
The cylinder of this 2nd Model has the long cylinder flutes with the “new and improved” locking stop slot notches on the outside rear of the cylinder, 22 CAL stamped on the left side of the frame, new style, and the 1874 patent date stamping on the barrel. The original pearl grip scales are not numbered. The barrel is the standard 2 1/4” length with the sides of the round barrel are machined flat. The barrel is stamped on the top in 2 lines, COLTS’ PT. F.A. MFG. CO / HARTFORD, CT. U.SA.
Although only about 5 1/2” long and weighing 7.5 oz. or 213 grams, this small pocket revolver was intended to be concealable; yet with 7 shots at close range, would be a powerful self-defense weapon when needed. The spur hammer and trigger were case hardened. The spur hammer is crosshatched, as is the spring-loaded cylinder pin button that has a set screw, as well was the cylinder pin end has very fine stippled raised dot engraving.
This eye appealing pocket pistol would be a fine addition for any Colt, New Line, Old West, Pocket, Revolver, Gun collector or Gambler display, rim fire, .22 R.F. collector.
