We have listed here the absolute finest antique firearm we have ever had in our collector firearms inventory. Believed to be considered as a “Holy Grail” firearm by collectors for its low production numbers and most significantly as the first Colt revolver manufactured for a metallic cartridge. Only a total of 7,000 units were manufactured in the years 1872 and 1873. Finding these 1871-72s in this condition is nearly impossible. A.A.E. presents this piece of art to you!
This 1871-72 must have been refinished at some point in its lifespan but we are unable to determine who did the work, however it is a remarkably excellent job. We were able to confirm with the co-owner of Turnbull Restoration that this firearm has never been in their possession.
Matching full serial numbers are on the frame, barrel, trigger guard and back strap. The matching partial serial number "108" is on the cylinder.
The top of the barrel is marked “-ADDRESS COL. SAML COLT NEW-YORK U.S. AMERICA-“ with the distinctive blade front sight and notched rear sight.
The cylinder is roll engraved with the infamous naval engagement scene with the markings “ENGAGED 16 MAY 1843” and “COLTS PATENT NO. 108”
The bore is also in good condition for a firearm of its age, with very distinctive “Gain” rifling.
The frame is marked "-PAT. JULY, 25, 1871-" & "-PAT. JULY, 2, 1872-"
As shown in the photos, we have disassembled this 1871-72 so the buyer is able to see exactly what they are purchasing with 100% confidence.
