Civil War Smith & Wesson No. 2 Old Army single-action revolver with a 6-inch tip-up octagonal barrel. The right grip is stamped with the serial number. The grips have been refinished and have some scattered nicks and scratches. There are also some areas of finish wear.
The action functions correctly but the cylinder lockup has some minor play and the barrel lockup is a bit wobbly. This revolver was not designed with a half-cock position.
This is an early production revolver (prior to May 1, 1865) with three pins in the topstrap. The serial number is 16784 (specimens under serial number 35,731 have a high probability of being used in the Civil War). The number “84” (the last two digits of the full serial number, which is stamped on the bottom of the grip strap) is stamped on the front face of the cylinder and on the breech end of the barrel.
