Here we present an antique Exquisite Germanic Jacob Kuchenreuter Flintlock Pistol built circa the mid-18th Century in the Bavarian Region of Germany. The Kuchenreuter family of Ratisbonne (Regensburg) were among the finest of Germanic gunsmiths in the 18th and 19th centuries. Joseph Kuchenreuter was the patriarch of this well-known gunmaking family from Bavaria and was active between 1712 and 1769.
This pistol features a 10 ½” barrel in .48 caliber that is chisel engraved with scrolls and is signed on top and inlaid with silver. The brass hardware was cast, then engraved with deer and gilded. The sideplate features a goddess motif. The stock is of fancy grain and tipped in ebony.
The overall condition is good. The action is strong. The bore is smooth and dim. The stock shows a crack that goes through the gun that basically bisects the lock and the side plate. There is a repaired crack around the rear most ramrod tube that is stable. This gun features beautiful carvings in the stock and ornate cast, engraved and gold washed hardware.
