this Contract Remington Rolling Block Rifle was made for the South American State of ARGENTINA of 1879. This is quite a scarce rifle to find in today's market. The Remington name and address on the tang of the receiver has become faint but is discernible. The model and date information is listed on the barrel Knox form and is clear: The RA in circle proof is for República Argentina, the official name of Argentina in Spanish. The E.N. abbreviation is for the Ejercito Nacional, or National Army in Argentina.
The rifle is complete with its ramrod and ladder-back sight, and really is in great collectible condition. The action works beautifully, and the bore has clear lands and grooves, mechanically incredibly good, functions without issue. Finish on receiver and barrel genuinely nice, with a little service wear. Wood with some small chips and bruises throughout, overall good condition. Marked "Modelo Argentino 1879 E. N." on barrel shank. Upper barrel tang with patent marks, slightly worn from surface loss. particularly good overall condition.
