This is an original, antique, Winchester Model 1885 Low-Wall Single Shot Rifle manufactured in 1893.
This was John Browning's first high power, single-shot rifle design. Browning began making them in 1878, producing only a small number before Winchester began production in 1885. Winchester manufactured these until 1920, chambering them for most popular rimfire and centerfire calibers. This rifle is in very good condition. The 28" octagon to round barrel appears to have been professionally reblued, as it retains nearly 100% of that blue. The edges and markings remain crisp. The butt plate and lever have a smooth brown patina.
The remainder has a gray steel and brown patina. The bore and mechanics are excellent. The stock is in fine condition with a few small dings on the bottom of the forearm from use. The forearm has a Schnabel tip with an ebony inlay. The upper tang has been drilled and tapped for a sight. This is a good-looking Low-Wall in decent condition.
