Antique Washington Arms Company .31 Cal. 6-Shot Engraved Pepperbox *1860's

For sale is this beautiful Antique, Washington Arms Company, .31 Caliber, 6-Shot, Engraved Pepperbox pistol. Manufactured circa the 1850's-1860's.
Features of this example include a 4.25" 6-shot ribbed rotating barrel, bag shaped walnut handle with iron escutcheons, bar hammer double-action mechanism, and an engraved nipple cover. Other engravings are found on the backstrap and frame. Top of the hammer is stamped "THE WASHINGTON ARMS CO" and the barrel is marked " CAST STEEL" along with a "C" in a circle. The iron trigger guard is fully enclosed. The integrated nipples on the barrel are in good condition with no visible cracks and mild oxidation present. There appears to be the serial number of 71 located on the trigger and barrel but they are difficult to read (please reference photos for detailed images of the numbers). The function of the firearm is as follows: the trigger pull is very heavy, and the barrel rotates with each trigger pull but do not lock up tight. The barrel can be rotated manually to load each percussion cap. There is about a 1/4" inch of play in the barrel left to right once the barrel is rotated to each nipple. The walnut grips are in Fair condition with one small chip, a couple dings, and handling marks present throughout. The metal parts have developed a rich grey and brown patina, and the engravings are deep and clear. Bores have mild oxidation and no signs of deep pitting. Double-action pepperboxes are found in quite a few variations and come in various calibers in barrel lengths.
