FOR THE GUN CANE COLLECTOR THAT WANTS SOMETHING NO ONE ELSE HAS... ~ THIS COMBINATION WALKING STICK AND DISGUISED WEAPON WAS MADE CIRCA EARLY TO MID 1890's AND IS A REPEATING OR "PUMP 22" TYPE .. IT HOLDS SEVERAL 22 CALIBER CARTRIDGES AND RELOADS AUTOMATICALLY FOR THE NEXT SHOT WHEN RECOCKED AFTER FIRING.. HAS A BEAUTIFUL BRAZILLIAN HORN HANDLE WITH A WIDE SILVER PLATED BRASS RING (SOME PLATING WORN OFF) THAT ROTATES TO EXPOSE THE FOLD AWAY TRIGGER THAT HAS A LEAF SPRING TO MAKE IT POP DOWN WHEN THE RING IS TURNED TO THE CORRECT POSITION.. CARTRIDGES ARE LOADED INTO THE MAGAZINE BY REMOVING THE TIP AND DROPPING IN SEVERAL 5.7 mm (22 CAL.) RIMFIRE BLACK POWDER CARTRIDGES.
I TESTED THE FIRING PIN BY INSERTING A 22 CALIBER CB CAP INTO THE BARREL AND SHOOTING IT, AND IT FIRED STRONG AND NICELY. (NOTE: CB CAPS HAVE NO POWDER IN THEM, AS YOU PROBABLY ALREADY KNOW, THEY JUST FIRE THE RIM SO AS NOT TO DAMAGE A GUN DESIGNED FOR BLACK POWDER CARTRIDGES).. AFTER INSERTING THE CARTRIDGES IN THE MAGAZINE YOU INSERT THE SPRING LOADED PLUNGER AND TURN IT 1/4 TURN TO LOCK IT IN PLACE AND REPLACE THE TIP FOR WALKING AROUND.. TO SHOOT THE GUN YOU REMOVE THE TIP, THEN COCK THE GUN BY TURNING THE HANDLE A QUARTER TURN COUNTER CLOCKWISE AND PULLING THE HANDLE BACK TO COCK IT THEN PUSHING IT FORWARD AND LOCKING IT CLOSED BY TURNING THE HANDLE CLOCKWISE.. YOU COULD CARRY IT ALREADY LOADED WITH A CARTRIDGE IN THE BARREL CHAMBER AND HAVE THE RING TURNED SO THE TRIGGER IS NOT EXPOSED TO ACT AS A SAFETY.. HAS A WOOD COVERED SHAFT WITH A SOLID NICKEL SILVER TIP WITH A THIN STEEL PAD ATTACHED TO THE VERY BOTTOM OF THE TIP WHERE THE TIP WOULD MEET THE GROUND WHEN WALKING.. THIS CANE IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION AND THE PUMP ACTION MECHANICS WORK EXACTLY AS DESIGNED.. AFTER FIRING A ROUND IT HAS A PINCH OR CLAW TYPE EXTRACTOR THAT AUTOMATICALLY GRABS THE RIM OF THE CARTRIDGE WHEN CLOSED. IT THEN EXTRACTS THE EMPTY CASE WHEN THE BOLT IS OPENED TO COCK IT AGAIN AND THE ELEVATOR BLOCK COMES UP TO INSERT A NEW CARTRIDGE THAT IT HAS ACCEPTED FROM THE MAGAZINE WHEN IT WAS CLOSED AND IN THE DOWN POSITION. IN THE PROCESS OF COCKING IT AGAIN THE ELEVATOR BLOCK COMES UP AND HITS THE TIP OF THE SPENT CARTRIDGE TO EJECT IT WHEN YOU OPEN THE BREECH AND PULL THE HANDLE BACK..THEN WHEN YOU PUSH THE HANDLE FORWARD TO CLOSE THE BREECH THE LONG FIRING PIN PUSHES THE NEW CARTRIDGE INTO THE BARREL AND THE ELEVATOR BLOCK GOES BACK DOWN TO RETRIEVE ANOTHER ROUND FROM THE MAGAZINE FOR THE NEXT SHOT WHEN YOU CLOSE THE BREECH AND TURN THE HANDLE TO LOCK IT CLOSED.. IT IS THEN READY TO FIRE ANOTHER ROUND.. IT'S A LITTLE HARD TO DESCRIBE BUT IS A GENIUS OF A DESIGN THAT IS A SIMPLE, EFFECTIVE, AND SMOOTH OPERATING SYSTEM.. THE OVERALL LENGTH OF THE CANE IS 34 3/4" FROM HANDLE TO TIP ... IN MANY YEARS OF COLLECTING GUN CANES I HAVE NEVER SEEN ANOTHER LIKE IT, AND THERE ARE NO MARKINGS OR SIGNATURE THAT I CAN FIND.
THIS CANE IS ALL ORIGINAL AND HAS BEEN VERY WELL LOVED AND PRESERVED BY ITS PREVIOUS OWNER(S) AND IS IN EXCELLENT PLUS CONDITION OVERALL.
YOU WILL EVER FIND ANOTHER ANYWHERE FOR ANY PRICE .. EVEN MORE RARE THAN A SINGLE SHOT REMINGTON WHICH THEY MADE SEVERAL HUNDRED OF IN THE 22 CAL MODEL "THANK YOU" FOR YOUR INTEREST, AND AS ALWAYS, ENJOY YOUR COLLECTING AND SEARCHING FOR RARE AND UNIQUE ITEMS FOR YOUR COLLECTION.
