US Springfield Model 1884 Cadet 1st Type Trapdoor single shot rifle chambered in 45-70 Govt. Barrel measures 29 5/8" in length with a moderately bright bore showing patches of moderate frosting and scattered patches of light to moderate pitting. Metal surfaces are primarily shades of brown and yellow-gray patina with freckled staining throughout along with high edge wear, pinprick pitting and handling marks. Single piece wood appears to have an added light finish over previous handling.
Breechblock is 1884 dated and the serial is in the correct range for the 1st Type Cadet and it also has the two piece triggerguard and stacking swivel only. Breechblock appears to lock up well and the hammer holds at all three positions. Included with the rifle is a slotted cleaning rod.
