Antique 1893 Colt Single Action Army, a timeless piece of American history. Chambered in .45 Long Colt with a 5.5-inch barrel, this revolver features the early blackpowder screw-in frame, a re-applied nickel finish from years past, and genuine stag grips beautifully scrimshawed with the "Scales of Justice." The revolver comes housed in a deluxe fitted display case, perfect for showcasing this historic firearm.
From our assessment, this Colt SAA appears to remain in its original 1893 configuration, although no Colt Archive Letter is available to confirm. The barrel retains the correct top address, unmarked caliber on the side, and tiny "45" caliber marking underneath the barrel, along with the proper beveled cylinder, removable bushing, and original floating firing pin hammer with correct squared off serrations. The frame assembly number "712" (not photographed but we verified) matches the loading gate assembly number, ensuring its authenticity.
The action and timing are solid, though the second hammer notch is slightly broken, resulting in three clicks instead of four. The bore is surprisingly bright for its age, with scattered small spots of erosion (approximately 70% condition or better), and heavier erosion near the breech—common for firearms used with black powder. The chambers remain in very good condition, showing only minor erosion.
This revolver is an impressive and solid representation of a late 1800s Colt Single Action Army, embodying the craftsmanship and history of the Old West. An excellent collector's piece and a must-have for any enthusiast of antique firearms.
