Antique New Jersey Marked Springfield Model 1873 Trapdoor single shot rifle in .45-70 Made 1881, and is technically a Model 1873/79. This gun is New Jersey State Militia marked, "NJ" on the left side of the chamber. Barrel has standard "V/P/Eagles Head/P" proofs on the barrel. There is also an "N.J." in an oval on the left side of the stock, in front of the faint "SWP/1881" cartouche. Circled "P" firing proof on the wrist. "52" rack number on the comb. "US" marked on the top of the butt plate. 32-1/2" barrel. "R" marked ladder rifle sight and blade front. Military blued and case colored finishes.
Oil finished wood stock. Smooth metal butt plate.
CONDITION: Metal is good overall, with a brown patina forming on the barrel.
Case coloring still visible on the breech block. Wood has handling marks, dings, scrapes and scratches. Bore is clean overall.
Strong rifling retained. Hammer is tight.
