Here is a decent example of the iconic workhorse of the Civil War - the US Model 1863 Springfield. The 1861 and 1863 models, which are nearly identical, were clearly the most prolific long arm of the Union Army. This example is a bit unusual in that the bore appears to be smooth rather than rifled. I know some of these were sporterized and sold by Bannerman's, but this example is in an original configuration with the 1863 type stock. The rear sight was modified to a simple shotgun style making me think that this musket is either a forager's gun or converted after the War for Native American use. Whichever the case, this is a nice looking example with a good functional lock, decent bore and original wood/metal finishes. This would make a great representative Civil War musket that is being offered at a very reasonable price so don't miss out.
