For sale is a Model 1891 Mauser Cavalry carbine modified in1931 to accept a bayonet. It is one of only 5000 such weapons modified for issue to Argentine combat engineers. Armorers added barrel bands and modified the 1879 Remington Rolling Block bayonet to fit the updated weapon. The modified rifle is somewhat scarce but the updated 1879 bayonets are more difficult to come by. The combination is a testimony to the ingenuity of the armory team to create a workable solution without the costly purchase of new weapons. Although obsolete, the 1891 carbine remained perfectly serviceable and there were large caches of well made 1879 bayonets for which there was no alternative application.
This example shows wear, but is fully intact and appears mechanically sound. The bore has sharp rifling and the markings, including the Argentine national crest, remain visible. The bayonet is in fine condition and includes the scabbard and leather frog.
If you collect Mauser variations, Argentine arms or rifles in 7.65x53mm caliber, here’s an opportunity to own a scarcer example of a German made, modified export model.
